Those interested in doing so will be able to view the interior of the four-star Clarion hotel in Olomouc, which has hosted a number of famous people, including President Miloš Zeman, when the hotel opens its doors to the public as part of the European Heritage Days during the weekend of 12 to 13 September 2015. The hotel, which on those dates will celebrate the 2nd anniversary of its opening, is being opened for visitors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and guided tours of the hotel, the congress centre and the beer spas will begin every hour.
The former Sigma Olomouc hotel, which has been the dominant feature of the area in front of the Olomouc railway station since the early 1980s, underwent major reconstruction in 2011. Coinciding with its general renovation, the hotel was placed under the Clarion brand in Choice Hotels International, an international hotel chain. The new four-star hotel has become part of the CPI City Center Olomouc administrative centre, and with a capacity of 126 rooms and congress spaces for up to 1,400 delegates, it is one of the largest congress hotels in the region. The renovation project won an award from a panel of judges during the nomination evening of the Building Project of the Year competition in 2014. During the days on which the hotel will be open to the public for viewing, the organisers have even prepared a special food offering. Visitors will be able to enjoy espresso with chocolate cake for just CZK 50. During the weekend, the Hotel Clarion will be one of 84 historic or otherwise interesting premises that will open their doors as part of this year's European Heritage Days event in Olomouc. The European Heritage Days festival was kicked off nationwide on 5 September in Český Krumlov, this year focused on restored heritage sites.
