Children from the Children's Home in Olomouc visited the Clarion Congress Hotel last weekend. Another event of the cycle "Baking with Clarion" took place here. It was the first time the project, which has been running in Clarion hotels in Prague for three years in cooperation with the foundation Chance 4 Children, relocated outside the city of Prague. Children had a chance to get to know the hotel environment and find out about all the interesting professions that can be performed within hotel operation. They were guided around the hotel by Silvie Szymiková, sales manager at the Clarion Congress Hotel.
"We compared hotel professions to the ones in a theatre; in this sense children liked the role of a director the most, naturally," she stated. Apart from seeing the rooms and conference halls or wellness centre, children could also see the "backstage" area, which a normal guest cannot see. Eventually they arrived in the kitchen mastered by the head chef Peter Formánek. Together with Ivana Klabalová, head confectioner at the Clarion hotel, he explained to the children the fundamentals of safety in a kitchen. Apart from decorating gingerbread cakes, the children tested their creativity by making figures from modelling dough and chocolate.
The head chef Peter Formánek also showed the young visitors some of his carving work, carving fruit, his professional area of expertise. The programme was followed by lunch in the Benada restaurant.
The aim of the event "Baking with Clarion" is not only to offer to children from children's homes an interesting programme, but also to present them with an idea for their possible future career within the gastronomy field.
The project started by cooperation with a nonprofit organisation Chance 4 Children, which has long been engaged in working with children living in institutional care, and with other children's facilities, focusing on their social integration and educational programmes.
